Signatures  –  A SELECTION OF Signed Firsts

Beschreibungen sind in der Regel in deutscher Sprache, wenn das Buch in deutscher Sprache ist; ist das Buch englisch, ist die Beschreibung im Kalalog ebenfalls englisch.

Diese Bücher sind alle vom Autor signiert, bzw. in einigen Fällen vom Herausgeber oder Übersetzer; in einem Fall vom Wiener Bildhauer Fritz Wotruba in der Erstausgabe von Elias Canettis Aufsatz über ihn.

Alle Bücher sind Erstausgaben, wenn nicht anders gekennzeichnet.

I have decided against upper-case inflationary headings: MAGNIFICENT ASSOCIATION COPY, VERY SCARCE etc., although these apply in several cases. Just browse through the entries, gentle reader, and you'll see what sort of stuff I'm selling this time. At least one of the books could be called "unique" (the Aldous Huxley Point Counter Point; I hope it goes to a good home). And there are several Nobel prizewinners here: Samuel Beckett, Heinrich Böll, Elias Canetti, William Golding, Günter Grass, Seamus Heaney, Doris Lessing and Harold Pinter.

first UK edition (published the previous year by Grove Press Inc.); pages 10-11 have spots at the bottom (coffee?); someone has tried unsuccessfully to remove one or two (of the two or three) on page 10, there are four on page 11, all small, none affecting the text; extensive (light) pencil notes - not by Beckett - almost filling the rear free endpaper; these could easily be rubbed out; almost illegible, beginning "Most biographers[?]/biographies[?]…"; top edge starting to show its age; otherwise tight and clean; red cloth-covered boards tired, slightly bumped and worn at the corners; dust-jacket a bit bashed at the extremities; some creasing and scratching, but not as grim as this sounds;

signed and inscribed in pencil on the front free endpaper: "To Mrs Morgan / Best of luck! / John Tessimond" followed by a sqiggly flourish
