ANNE BERESFORD

Sunlight in the Orchard   /   Sonnenlicht im Obstgarten

“superbly designed, printed and bound … Beresford is a fine poet who seems in danger of getting forgotten; this is a splendid reminder of (and for some perhaps an introduction to) her startlingly beautiful work.” (Acumen)

Sunlight in the Orchard / Sonnenlicht im Obstgarten contains 30 poems from four decades, including uncollected and previously unpublished poems; the book contains a CD of the poet reading the work in this volume, and the translator, K.A. Perryman, reading it in German. Anne Beresford has never made a recording of her own poetry before.

Sunlight in the Orchard / Sonnenlicht im Obstgarten includes seven new and uncollected poems, five of which are printed here for the first time. This bilingual selection, then, would be interesting even for those who follow the work of this ridiculously underrated poet and have no German.

The volume was printed by offset lithography by Dinauer Druck, Munich, on 120gsm off-white wood-free paper. Format: 24 x 17.5 cm; 84pp.; 500 copies. It is sewn, with a 240gsm wrap-around wood-free paper cover (Munken Pure Design Card) printed in two colours.

50 numbered specials are signed by the poet and contain an original dry-point by Vroni Schwegler signed by the artist. Her highly praised etchings are masterpieces of the craft, echoing traditional images, but remaining clearly contemporary in tone. Vroni Schwegler uses damaged, scratched plates. This, together with her fine line and hatching, gives the images an extraordinary intensity and fragility. The specials are also signed by Friederike Mayröcker, who contributed an unpublished poem to this volume.
